Mental Health

Many of us pray for good health. It may be a sick child, friend, or loved one. Most people think of poor health as colds, ailments, and other physical conditions but we tend to forget about one's Mental Health when praying for others.
“Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7
Mental health is just as important as physical health. I have friends and family who suffer from depression and anxiety. They feel that suffering from Mental Health disorders is a sign of weakness. This is totally wrong and a terrible stereotype.  It is a condition that needs more awareness and for us to pray for.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
My father suffers from anxiety and it’s something he has trouble controlling. There are numeruous visuals that can trigger his anxiety attacks such as tragic news stories about children or when he sees photos/videos of my nephew and nieces (his grandkids) that he has not seen in a long time. As a family, we haven’t seen or heard from my sister and her kids in over 5 years. I won’t go into detail as to why but this separation has bothered my father’s mental health, especially his anxiety.
“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10
The Bible has plenty of verses in regards to Mental Health in which God wants you to give your daily problems to Him.   If you feel you or someone you know has Mental Health issues, please reach out to a doctor, therapist, or pastor. The longer you try and ignore or hide it, the worse it gets and can lead to other medical issues.
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” - John 14:27
Pray for them too. Ask God to take away their fears, anxiety, and any other mental disorders just like when you pray for someone's surgery to go well. Do not cease in prayer. Continue to lift them up daily and truly trust God is healing them.
