What is Pride and How to Defeat it?

We all have things we are proud of. It could be our kids, marriage, house, etc. Somethings we have the right and should be proud of. Other things we are too prideful of and it’s not a good thing.
I’m sure we all had that one boss that was so proud of their job that they let the power go to their head. I know I’ve experienced someone in the workplace who was proud of their job title. They let the power go their head and thought no matter what they said or did to the employees, they were above being fired. That's bad pride. They may not be let go by the company but they will have to answer to God one day.
The best way to avoid pride consuming you is to remain humble. Thank God for getting you that job position, car, etc. I try to be as humble as I can in everything I do.
When I think of being humble, I relate it to sports. Tim Tebow is the first name that comes to mind. Even after winning the Heisman and National Championships, he always gave the glory and credit to God. He never became too prideful or arrogant like other athletes. We need to be like this is our lives.
It’s like the old saying goes, “Remember where you came from and who helped you get there.” I found some Bible verses that talk about pride:
“Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.”Galatians 6:4
“The LORD Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.”Isaiah 23:9
“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'”James 4:6

  1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven". Humility is the realization that all your gifts and blessings come from the grace of God. It is pride, the opposite of humility, that brings misery.

  2. i catch the thought when it comes and replace it with a humbling thought. Not comparing myself with anyone or seeing myself as better off.
