The Season of Gift Giving

We are in the season of gift giving. We had Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday specials. Sometimes we try to buy the most popular or expensive gifts for our friends and family. Some of us try to buy these extravagant gifts to make up for not spending quality time with our loved ones.
We need to remember that it doesn’t matter how expensive the gift is we give. Spending quality time with our friends and loved ones is more valuable than the latest smartphones or video game consoles.
This holiday season I challenge you to spend time with friend or loved ones instead of buying them those lavish gifts. It can be a phone call or an in-person visit. Take the time to just hang out and catch up. Make them a handmade gift like a collage of some of the photos and memories you have shared over the years together. You can also do this with that neighbor or someone we know that doesn’t have anyone to spend the holidays with. Give to a local charity or food bank this holiday season. You can even volunteer your time to assist in person. These organizations can always use assistance during the holiday season. I’ll share some of my favorite Bible verses about giving.
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” - Proverbs 11:25
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” - Matthew 19:21
"The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously." - Psalm 37:21
