Order of Priorities

Ever wonder who takes priority in your life? Many of you reading this question right now just had the name of someone close to you pop up in your head. That name may belong to your spouse, parent, child, grandchild, sibling, or close friend but what does the bible tell us? Growing up, my father taught me the order of the first three.

PRIORITY #1 GOD
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” - Deuteronomy 6:5
God is our number one priority in life. We are to Love our God with all our heart. We honor him everyday with our words and actions. We show our Love for God when we attend church, when we let our spirit sing songs of praise, and by seeking a relationship with Him.

PRIORITY #2 SPOUSE
"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her" - Ephesians 5:25
After God, our spouse is our next priority. Not our children...but our spouse. A man leaves his mother and father to join his wife, and they become one, a team. Her needs become his and visa versa. Therefore, our spouse's needs come before everyone else, except God.

PRIORITY #3 CHILDREN
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6
Children are a blessing and a gift from God. Its amazing how much Love you can have for someone. God could have only created adults if He wanted too...instead He blessed us with the opportunity to raise these precious gifts. It could be God's way for us to understand how much He Loves us. God Loves us more than we can ever imagine. We are His children. He blesses us with children of our own to raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

PRIORITY #4 PARENTS
“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." - Deuteronomy 5:16
As a child, we are to obey our parents and what they tell us to do. They spent 18 years of their life raising us. 18 years of blood, sweat, and tears. After we became adults, we are not forced to obey them in our society but God asks us to always honor them. We might not agree with everything our parents say and do, and many might not even speak with their parents, but...always pray for them, always forgive, and always have Love for them.

PRIORITY #5 EXTENDED FAMILY
"But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." - Timothy 5:8
This includes Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

PRIORITY #6 FELLOW BELIEVERS/FRIENDS
Next are our brothers and sisters in Christ. Worship together in Church and help fellow believers, physically and emotionally. We are to encourage one another and help those going through trials, as my favorite phrase goes, Iron sharpens Iron.

PRIORITY #7 REST OF THE WORLD
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" - Matthew 28:19

Love thy neighbor, as you love yourself. Do not judge, do not  cause others to stumble or fall. Treat everyone the way you want God to treat you. Its important to remember, God Loves everyone exactly the same. There are no favorites.
