What Happens When We Die

How we live right now determines how we live after we die. Believe it or not, there is life after death. The Word of God speaks about this subject throughout the Bible. So lets dive into the topic of what happens when we die?

"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." - Matthew 25:46

The Bible is very clear, when our time is up on this earth, we go to one of two places...Heaven or Hell. Two places that set the record for the most polar opposite of each other. Heaven is filled with the light of Jesus and the love of God. There are no tears, no pain, and no more suffering. Heaven is the place to be! Not only because there is no pain or suffering, but because we get to physically see and hear Jesus and God. We get to sit down and have conversations with our Loving Father and the Son of God, just like we do with our friends/family now. Imagine, getting to spend eternity living in the Kingdom of God and how great that will be.

"And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." - Luke 23:43

To enter Heaven, we must live obedient to God and His will. We must accept our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into our hearts. Know that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and God raised him from the dead. Jesus paid the ultimate price, his life, for all our sins and in doing so, has allowed us entry into Heaven, through him. Be mindful, the gates of heaven are narrow because many choose not to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and they choose to follow the ways of the world.

"Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able." - Luke 13:24

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him" - John 3:16-17

Hell is a pit of fire filled with pain and torment that never ceases to end. The devil has one goal...to steal, kill and destroy. He seeks to turn everyone away from God and to throw all those he can persuade into the pits of Hell. In Hell, there is no peace, no love, and no relief from the pain. Remember, after death we will be spending eternity in one of these two places. Not 80 years, not 100 years....its for eternity. Thats why its so important for us to change our ways now and live for God.

Steps towards Heaven

  • Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior
  • Repent of all your sins and turn away from sin
  • Get Baptized by water (the outward expression of your dedication to Christ)
  • Love God and ALL others
  • Preach the gospel to all (Mark 16:15)
  • Remember Jesus will come again
  • Join a church and have a support team. We are all stronger together. Just like my favorite verse says "Iron sharpens Iron."

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." - Mark 12:30-31

Remember, just simply doing good deeds and attending church on Sundays will not get you to heaven. Its about faith in God, accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, asking for forgiveness of our sins, and living according to God's will. Live the best life possible, all in God's name. God is Love, in so, live your life full of Love. Doing so ensures our name will be written in the book of Life!

"And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." - Revelation 20:15
