God Will Move Mountains in Your Life

We all have moments in life that overwhelm us from time to time. Those moments where your path is blocked by a Mountain and you see no way through. Your Mountain could be medical, financial, etc. How did you handle those situations? Did you bottle the stress up or did you find yourself constantly talking about how bad things are in your life? Well, hopefully neither...God does not want us doing either of the two!

Bottling the stress creates separation from others and can lead to depression. It intensifies your emotions to the point that the bottle will explode and possibly taking your problems out on others.  In moments where others need compassion and love, you will be less likely to show any. God wants His people to be happy and loving.

"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble." Psalm 9:9

The other extreme is talking constantly about how bad things are in your life. Not only will others not want to have conversations with you knowing they will hear nothing but complaining, but the more you speak about the Mountain in your life, the bigger it becomes in your mind. For example, My mother was told she could have cancer and needed surgery. It seemed like all she ever spoke about were her doctor visits and the upcoming surgery. Essentially, she made her Mountain bigger and bigger every day to the point she was trying to climb Mount Everest.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

Every one of us has been in one, or both, of the situations above. Most likely, we handled it poorly and not in the way God's Word has commanded us to. God tells us we can still live happy and loving lives when the Mountain appears on our path. Think back to a Mountain you had in the past and realize...I could have been stress free...zero fears...and living happily. Speak to those Mountains in your life and tell them how powerful your God is and watch as God moves those Mountains off your path!

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

Some of you reading this may say, "Easier said than done," and right you are! Our minds are quick to doubt. Look at Peter when Jesus told him to step out of the boat and walk on the surface of the water. He was literally face to face with Jesus Christ and he still allowed doubt into his mind for a split second, causing him to sink. I can honestly say that God keeps his promise because of something I went through in my high school years.

"Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken." Psalm 55:22

While on vacation, I became extremely sick and ended up staying in the hospital for a week. Scans displayed air surrounding my heart and lungs. Doctors were puzzled because they only see this case once or twice a year from scuba divers who surfaced too quick from deep dives. Problem was...I wasn't out diving, nor in any water whatsoever.  I was placed on a long list of antibiotics and was approached by the doctor to go in for surgery. I felt God was speaking to me at that moment when I happily replied, "I don't need surgery, my Father in heaven above is healing me right now." As the doctor walked away, still in the hallway in a hospital bed, I began to sing the song "Awesome God." Funny thing...I thought I was singing quietly but apparently I was singing extremely loud. I gave God my stress and worries and He moved that Mountain in my life. During the course of that week, the air began to dissipate and leave on its own. I was discharged from the hospital just as bewildered as I was when I arrived regarding what happened inside my body, but I knew I was okay because when you give God your fears/stress, He will sustain you and never let the righteous be shaken.

It's also important to have someone by your side that knows the Word of God too for when that Mountain approaches. That way they can continue to encourage you to trust God in moments of doubt. Like one of my favorite verses says, Iron sharpens Iron!
