As people in general, we are taught for the most part to pray for something you want or pray for someone that is sick or needs help. All of those are great reasons to pray and should be part of our daily talks with God but one thing that is not brought up as much when talking about prayer is giving thanks to God for answering your prayers.
As Christians we should remember to give thanks in our prayer before going back and asking for more help. It's like for those of us that have kids: they come up to dad and say “Can I have some cookies? Can I have some money? Can you buy me a game?” but never hearing thanks dad. Also, don't forget to be specific with God. Thank him for exactly what he did; show your appreciation for those things big and small. Like it says in Psalm 138:2...
“I will worship toward your holy temple, and praise your name for your lovingkindness and your truth; for you have magnified your word above all your name.”
In conclusion, before asking God for more help, give him a little “hey thanks” (praise) in your prayers.

I thank God my son was able to achieve his Phd. and I was able to fly safely to see him this past weekend. We attended the church we used to attend while living in that state, and there was such a feeling of "family". God is good.

DeleteA year ago today my wife suffered a sever cardiac arrest after a period of deteriorating health and an earlier accident. I can now just about manage to thank God for taking her so quickly and putting an end to her suffering. Since we were both Christians, I know that she has a resurrection to come and maybe we will meet again then. I do thank the Lord every morning for the gift of another day (so, I am still a believer).

Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things that we must cope with because not only do we experience tremendous pain and grieving, but we are left with so many questions, such as Why? God doesn't want us to focus on those questions though because it prolongs the pain and He doesn't want you to suffer any longer than you already have.
Psalm 147:3 tells us that "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." God also tells us in Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Richard…GOD LOVES YOU and He is with you every minute and every second, and He does not want you to feel pain and mourn any longer. For Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Talk with God, and give him ALL your pain. Be specific in your prayer to Him and rejoice that your wife is in Heaven where she feels no pain, walks the streets with Jesus, and gets to spend every single day for eternity with our Heavenly Father. If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will, without a doubt, see your wife again…in Heaven, where you will once again share many more memories together.
